Why June Will Always Be Special to Me

A Special reflection from our GM

June has always been one of my favourite months at The Permanent.

Partly because there’s an unmistakable energy in the city this time of year. The days stretch long into the evening, patios fill up, visitors arrive from out of town, and everyone seems to have a little more lightness in their step. But June is also special to me for a more personal reason: it’s the month I got married here.

This June marks seven years since my husband and I celebrated our wedding at The Permanent.

When we got engaged the July before, I knew I wanted to enjoy being engaged for a while. I loved that season of life—the anticipation, the planning, the excitement of bringing friends and family together. For us, a year felt like the perfect amount of time to prepare without feeling rushed.

We chose June because Vancouver truly shines this time of year. While our weather is never guaranteed, it's generally one of the safest bets for sunshine, and the city feels vibrant and alive. For couples welcoming guests from elsewhere, it's also a wonderful opportunity to show off everything we love about Vancouver.

Of course, every couple is different. Some dream of a cozy winter celebration, others of an autumn gathering surrounded by rich colours, or a spring wedding when everything is beginning to bloom. One of the things I love most about The Permanent is how beautifully it transforms with the seasons. The light changes, the atmosphere shifts, but the character of the space remains timeless.

Having experienced this venue not only as General Manager but also as a bride, I understand firsthand what it feels like to envision one of life's biggest celebrations within these walls. It remains one of the reasons I feel so connected to the weddings and events we host today.

If you're beginning to think about your own celebration and are curious about what it's like to host a wedding at The Permanent, we'd love to hear from you.

Let's start the conversation.

Very best, Louisa Cohen, GM, The
